LOOK WHO'S TALKING IN THE WORKPLACE! I came up with the idea of writing short conversations in the workplace when I was teaching ENGLISH IN THE WORKPLACE (Benchmark 5 - 6) some years ago. My students pointed out that their main problem on the job was not writing (resumes, covering letters, memos, notes, etc.) but mainly speaking to the boss, to their colleagues, and responding to their co-workers when they told them stories on current events, everyday life such as sports, hobbies, accidents, traffic jams, movies, friends, family, etc. The class courteously suggested that I create short conversations that normally occur on the job. This book is a result of my three-year stint in that class. The students bragged that after eleven weeks in that class, they had seen a dramatic change in their oral communication skills at work coupled with better self-esteem and comfort with the North American culture. They also said that they received generous compliments for their English from their colleagues and bosses. For those reasons I decided to publish this book LOOK WHO'S TALKING IN THE WORKPLACE! And IT WORKS! |
